Treating and Resolving
Recurring Yeast Infection
The second most common
type of vaginal infection that plagues women today is the
dreaded yeast infection. While some women experience a
yeast infection only rarely, there are some sufferers who find
themselves afflicted with recurring yeast infections. As
a result, it is important for a woman to understand basic and
essential information relevant to a recurring yeast infection.
The most important factor that you need to keep in mind is the
importance of obtaining professional medical attention for a
recurring yeast infection in many instances. Health care
professionals generally advise that if you experience a
recurring yeast infection within sixty days of a previous
infection you should see your doctor.
One primary reason why many women do end up
experiencing a recurring yeast infection is
that they wrongly assume that the yeast infection itself is
contained only to the vagina. In many instances, these
women will utilize suppositories or some sort of vaginal cream
or topical application that will not fully resolve the yeast
infection entirely. While the yeast infection in the
vagina itself may clear up – temporarily – the infection itself
has not been fully eradicated and will recur in the future.
Another significant reason why some women
end up experiencing a recurring yeast infection rests in the
fact that they simply are not using the right type of
medication or treatment regimen. There are products on
the market that are advertised as being capable of treating a
yeast infection that contain antihistamines or that are topical
anesthetics. While these products will relieve some of
the unpleasant symptoms of a yeast infection, these products
will not resolve a yeast infection.
Yet another reason why some women experience
a recurring yeast infection is because they
are engaging in or not engaging in certain hygienic practices
that cause a yeast infection to occur and then reoccur.
For example, for some women the utilization of feminine sprays
will cause a yeast infection. In such instances, these
products simply should not be used.
A woman may have some sort of more serious
medical condition that has as one of its symptoms a propensity
for yeast infections to occur. For example, hormonal
imbalances in a woman can give rise to recurring yeast
infections. (Such an underlying medical condition
underscores the reason why a woman needs to see a doctor if she
experiences a recurring yeast infection as described
previously.) There are also instances in which a woman
suffering from a yeast infection needs to seek immediate
medical attention even if a recurring yeast infection is not at
issue. For example, if a yeast infection does not
substantially resolve within seven days, a visit to the doctor
should be scheduled. Additionally, if a woman experiences
any of the following symptoms while treating a yeast infection,
a doctor's appointment needs to be scheduled immediately:
By consulting with a doctor promptly, a woman suffering from a
yeast infection can avoid more serious complications in the
short and in the long run.
