Can Men Contract Yeast
Infections?
Men can also have
problems with yeast infections. There is always a certain
amount of yeast specimens present within the penis and just
like women, certain factors can cause this yeast to grow out of
control. Women and men pass yeast with most sexual activities,
in particular penal-vaginal intercourse. If the woman has a
yeast infection, it is expected that more yeast than normal
will be exchanged. The same is true if the man has a yeast
infection. This often results in exclusive sexual partners
passing a yeast infection back and forth.
For men, a penal yeast infection can be very
painful, just as in women with vaginal infections. Most
commonly the first symptom of a penal infection is the
swelling, tenderness, and swelling of the penis head. This is
typically uncomfortable and sometimes involves excessive
itchiness.
Just like women, some men exhibit a white
discharge that resembles “cottage cheese”. This discharge will
occur in the head of the penis and may or may not have a foul
odor. Odor is typically associated more with bacterial
infections but every person’s condition will vary.
If you do contract a yeast infection, the
following are the two common treatments:
Diflucan (fluconazole)
Nizoral (ketaconazole)
The most common cause of yeats infection in
men is sexual intercourse but the folloing are contributing
factors:
HIV: If you are HIV+ you are more likely to
contract a yeast infection although Thrush is the most common
yeast infection in HIV+ men
Antibiotics: As in women, men have a natural
occurrence of yeast. In women this yeats is in the vaginal area
and in men it is present in and around the penis. When
antibiotics are used, other microorganisms that typically keep
yeast in check are destroyed. When this happens, the yeast
takes advantage of this niche and grows at a rapid pace.
Diabetes: As with other problems with the
immune system, those with diabetes are more prone to yeasts
infections. If you have diabetes, it is a good idea to be
particularly vigilante with sexual cleanliness and care.
